This pattern is part of Fremstrikk 2023. Fremstrikk is a magazine from Rauma Garn made with the intention of promoting those who work with, engage in, and create using Norwegian wool. Tonje Hodne designed the Wildberry Sweater for Fremstrikk, inspired by memories from her childhood. Tonje grew up having a boat, and her family often went on boat trips during the summer. “I imagine that we arrive at an islet with a forest plentiful of blueberries. The sun is high in the sky, it smells like sunscreen and the sea. There’s a childlike joy and excitement in the air, and plenty of small, round, blueberries.” She wanted the design to have a simple form, inspired by traditional knitting but with a desire for renewal. She decided on colorwork. An unexpected choice for someone who had never designed colorwork patterns before. But it turned out to be a fun challenge. She started with dots. Dots and circles fit into the vision of a simple form. She made swatches with different colors and in the end she settled on two shades of blue against a gray background.
ABOUT
Wildberry Sweater is knit top down in stockinette following a charted pattern. You start by knitting the backside back and forth. Then you pick up stitches along the shoulders for the right and left front piece. The front pieces are knit back and forth before you join to knit the body in the round. You pick up stitches for the sleeves and collar. There is no sewing needed in the making of this sweater.
